A Low Loft That Comes Apart

The Ylven loft bed is the full size version of this low frame, built as four pieces that happen to stack rather than one fixed unit. A pine frame carries fourteen slats for a Full mattress with no box spring, purchased separately, and full-length guardrails run the open sides of the deck with a three-rung ladder built into one end. Underneath, a desk on locking castors rolls out from the frame and pushes back in, its own shelf column travelling with it. A three-drawer chest on metal glides fills the centre, and a two-tier bookshelf runs the length of the far side. None of the three is bolted to the frame. The deck sits low enough that the whole assembly reads as furniture rather than a structure, and is rated to 250 pounds.

Care Instructions

• Dust the pine frame with a dry cloth, following the grain rather than working across it
• Wipe finished surfaces with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately so water does not sit on the finish
• Blot spills on the desktop as they happen rather than letting liquid sit along the panel edge
• Avoid abrasive powders, scouring pads, bleach and solvent-based cleaners on any wood surface
• Keep the frame away from radiators, heat vents and long hours of direct sunlight
• Clear grit from the drawer runners with a dry cloth so the drawers keep gliding smoothly
• Check the desk castors for hair and dust caught in the wheels, and lock them before working at the desk
• Retighten every frame bolt after the first two weeks of use, then check them every few months
• Lift the chest and bookshelf rather than dragging them when rearranging the room
