A Desk With Its Edges Turned Up

The Vantaa desk is drawn as one continuous shape rather than a flat board on legs. The work surface curves upward at both ends into low side wings and rises at the back into a hutch, leaving the front edge open and the other three sides raised, so anything that rolls stops before it reaches the floor. The hutch splits into four compartments across the back, two wide openings for books and files, and two smaller stacked shelves at the left for the things that get lost in a big space, with a narrow ledge running along the top for frames and small plants. Four solid rubberwood legs taper toward the floor in a natural finish and splay outward from the corners, angled to plant a light frame steadily while leaving the space underneath completely open.

Care Instructions

• Wipe the painted top with a soft damp cloth and a mild detergent, then dry it right away

• Avoid abrasive powders, scouring pads, bleach and household cleaners on the painted surface
• Dust the solid wood legs with a dry cloth and apply a wood-safe polish a few times a year
• Keep the legs dry rather than letting water sit against the wood
• Position the desk away from radiators, heat vents and long hours of direct sunlight
• Keep the heavier books in the wide hutch openings and lighter items on the top ledge
• Retighten the leg hardware every few months to keep the splayed stance firm
