Tigris brown dining chairs with woven cane backs in a bright contemporary dining room

Meet Tigris - Standing on One Loop

Look at these chairs from the side and the back half is floating. The Tigris velvet cantilever dining chairs have no rear legs at all. A single chrome tube leaves the front of the seat, drops to the floor, bends through a flat loop that reaches back along the ground, then folds up again and takes the rear of the seat from underneath, so the whole weight rides forward of where you sit. Above it a handwoven cane panel sits in a rounded wood surround, open enough for air to pass behind your back, over a velvet cushion piped around its edge. Each chair carries 360 pounds. These chairs pull up to a weeknight table, hold two seats in a room where solid chair backs would close things in, and take a desk in a home office. Cantilever dining chairs, chrome frame dining chairs, cane back dining chairs, velvet dining chairs, mid century modern dining chairs. Best for first-home dining rooms, small dining spaces, and anyone who wants a chair the eye can see straight through.

Take A Closer Look

Piped Velvet Upholstery

Short dense pile covers the seat and shifts tone as the light moves across it, while a corded edge traces the full outline, the piping catching brightness at each squared corner where the flat faces stay matte.

Handwoven Cane Panel

Natural cane fills the back in a fine hexagonal grid, framed by the only wood on the chair. The corners ease into a continuous radius and the inner face steps down against the weave, holding the panel flush.

Chrome Floor Loop

The tube drops from the front of the seat, flattens into a loop that reaches back along the floor and turns up again behind, carrying the rear of the chair from underneath with nothing standing where back legs would be.

Plush Seat Cushion

Foam packs the cushion square between the frame rails and holds firm under weight rather than compressing to the tube beneath, coming back to shape after a long meal instead of settling into a dip.
