A Loft Bed That Holds a Room

The Sorrel loft bed is the full size version of this high loft frame, built in solid pine so one piece carries what a bed, a desk, a dresser and a wardrobe would take up separately. Fourteen slats plus a reinforced center rail span the platform for a Full mattress with no box spring, purchased separately, and tall guardrails run the open sides of the deck. Underneath, an L-shaped desktop turns the corner with a power strip set into the surface, open bookshelves stack above and beside it, and a wardrobe closes off the far end behind two paneled doors with a hanging rod inside and a wide drawer below. The staircase climbing one side is built from open storage cubes rather than plain treads, giving the room another wall of shelving on the way up. The deck is rated to 300 pounds.

Care Instructions

• Unplug the power strip at the wall before cleaning anything on or near the desktop
• Keep cups, bottles and cleaning sprays away from the outlet panel, and never wipe it with a wet cloth
• Dust the pine frame with a dry cloth, following the grain rather than working across it
• Wipe finished surfaces with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately so water does not sit on the finish
• Blot spills on the desktop as they happen rather than letting liquid sit along the panel edge
• Avoid abrasive powders, scouring pads, bleach and solvent-based cleaners on any wood surface
• Keep the frame away from radiators, heat vents and long hours of direct sunlight, which can dry or fade the wood
• Clear grit from the drawer runners with a dry cloth so the drawer keeps gliding smoothly
• Wipe the wardrobe interior and hanging rod with a dry cloth, and keep damp clothes off the rod until they have dried
• Retighten every frame bolt after the first two weeks of use, then check them every few months
• Lift the frame clear of the floor when repositioning rather than dragging it
