A Counter Stool Built on Seams

The backrest is built up from panels rather than a single face, welt cords marking where they meet and tracing the outline once more around the edge. Below it, a rounded faux leather seat carries a rolled front edge over foam set on a rigid seat core, mounted on a swivel plate that brings the seat round to face the room without shifting the base. Four tapered steel legs splay out from under that plate, each closed at the foot with a polished gold cap, and a four-sided gold footrest bolts across all four at boot height. The seat wipes down with a cloth, which is what puts a leather-look surface at a counter in the first place.

Care Instructions

• Wipe the faux leather seat and back with a soft cloth dampened in mild detergent, then dry with a clean cloth
• Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing, so nothing settles into the welt seams
• Avoid solvents, bleach, abrasive pads and alcohol-based cleaners on the faux leather, which strip the surface coating
• Keep the stools away from radiators, heat vents and long hours of direct sunlight, since sustained heat stiffens faux leather over time
• Draw a dry cloth along the welt cords and the seam where the back meets the seat, where dust collects first
• Wipe the metal frame and footrest with a soft dry cloth only, and keep abrasive pads and polishes off the gold caps and footrest, which carry a surface finish
