Mogan oak dining chairs set of two in a warm dining space with natural wood flooring

Meet Mogan - Turn It Over First

Every wooden dining chair looks solid in a photograph. The one that is still solid in three years is the one with something holding the legs to each other, and that is on the underside where nobody photographs it. Turn a Mogan solid wood dining chair over and four hardwood members cross beneath the seat, each leg tied to the leg opposite so the frame cannot rack sideways every time somebody drops into it. The rest follows from the same material. The seat is dished into the panel rather than cushioned on top, the curved backrest spans two uprights and leaves the lower back open, and a clear lacquer seals the grain without hiding it. Solid wood dining chairs set of 2, oak dining chairs, mid-century wood dining chairs, armless kitchen chairs. Best for dining rooms, eat-in kitchens, and anyone who has already replaced one wobbling chair.

Take A Closer Look

1.

Dished Solid Seat

The sitting surface is shaped into the timber itself, hollowed toward the centre and eased at every edge, so the seat holds position through a meal without a cushion between the sitter and the wood.

2.

Solid Hardwood Throughout

Every part is cut from timber, the legs, the uprights, the seat panel and the back, with nothing laid over board anywhere in the frame, so the grain that shows on the surface goes the whole way through the piece.

Cross Brace Under Seat

Four hardwood members meet in an X beneath the seat panel, each running from one leg to the leg diagonally opposite, which is what keeps the frame from racking sideways after a few seasons of daily use.

Curved Floating Backrest

The backrest spans two uprights at shoulder height and floats clear of them, its face shaped inward to meet the spine and its ends rolled into a curve smooth enough to hook a hand under when the chair pulls out.
