Meet Fontana - One Wood, One Frame

Most small dining sets are an argument between two woods. The table is one tone, the chairs are another, and the room has to decide if they belong together. The Fontana dining table set in walnut takes the argument away. The round top and the legs under both Haven chairs carry the same walnut tone, so the only thing in the group that is not warm is the frame holding it up, and that frame is deliberately black. Four steel tubes lean in, cross under the top and come down near the center, leaving the rim open for both chairs to go all the way in. It seats two with room on the table for four, so another pair of Haven chairs can join later. As a mid-century modern dining set with a round walnut-tone table, it suits a breakfast nook or a small dining room. Best for couples, first apartments and anyone furnishing one corner at a time.

Take A Closer Look

Grain Over the Edge

Grain Over the Edge

The walnut pattern does not stop where the top does; it turns the rounded edge and continues onto the underside. The rim therefore shows grain instead of a band of flat color, and the two meet without a visible line.

Seam Across the Top

Seam Across the Top

The top is made in two half panels that meet along a line through the center, held together from below. On a walnut face the join follows the grain direction, so it sits in the pattern rather than across it.

Top and Legs Agree

Top and Legs Agree

Hold a chair leg against the table and the two walnut tones land in the same place. That is why the set reads as one object from the doorway rather than as a table that happened to get chairs.

Black Tips All Round

Black Tips All Round

The black does not stay at the table base. Every chair leg finishes in a black cap of its own, so the same color meets the floor at twelve points and the warm tones never touch it.
