Meet Etna - The Rail Stays Put

Swivel stools usually turn as one piece, seat and back together, so whichever way a person faces the back follows. The Etna counter stools split the two apart. The rear legs carry on above the seat and hold a single arc of wood across the back, and that piece belongs to the frame, not to the cushion. The seat spins underneath it. Turn to face the room and the wood comes round beside you; turn back and it is behind you again, exactly where it was. It also sits low, low enough that a pushed-in pair leaves nothing above the counter edge at all. As solid rubberwood swivel counter stools they bring real timber to an island that is usually stone and steel, and as low back counter stools they keep a small kitchen from filling up with chair backs. Best for open-plan kitchens, apartment islands and anyone who wants the counter to read clear when nobody is sitting.

1.

Independent Seat Swivel

A mechanism between the seat and the frame lets the cushion turn a full 360° on its own, independent of the backrest and the legs, which stay fixed in place through every turn of the seat.

2.

Single Arc Backrest

A single length of rubberwood bends into a shallow arc and crosses the back at the height of the lower spine, its ends rounded off where they meet the posts. Nothing on the stool sits above it.

3.

Round Linen Seat

The cushion is a full circle, edge to edge with no flat side, wrapped in a plain linen weave that reads matte against the polished wood. The foam holds its dome rather than flattening at the rim.

Rubberwood Leg Frame

The rear legs continue above the seat as posts for the backrest while the front legs stop at seat level, and a closed ring of rubberwood joins them near the floor, pinned through with hardware that shows at each contact.
