Constance brown woven rope dining chairs beside a rectangular wood table in a warm dining space

Meet Constance - Wound, Not Woven In

A cane back arrives as a finished panel, cut to size and fitted into a frame. A rope back has no panel at all. The cord is wound onto the Constance dining chairs one pass at a time, wrapping across the two outer sections and turning to travel vertically down the middle, and that change of direction is what gives the back its three fields. Nothing is hiding a join, because there is no join. Below it the seat is upholstered right over the rail and down the sides, soft where a wood edge would otherwise meet the back of your leg. These are the chairs that sit around a table by a window, carry a bag on the back through a workday at a desk, and pull out for a fourth guest. Woven rope back dining chairs, upholstered dining chairs set of 2, coastal dining chairs, organic modern dining chairs, solid wood dining chairs. Best for coastal and organic modern dining rooms, first-home buyers, and rooms where one textured surface is doing all the work.

Hand-Wound Rope Back

Cord wraps the frame one pass at a time with every turn left in view, laid tight enough that the rows read as continuous ridges from a few steps back and as individual strands up close.

Comfortable Upholstered Seat

Padding rounds over the front rail and continues down the sides, giving under weight and coming back, with no wood edge left where the back of a leg rests through a long meal.

Splayed Rubberwood Legs

Four hardwood legs angle outward as they drop, the rear pair carrying up past the seat to become the back posts, one length of timber doing the work of a leg and an upright.

Three-Field Weave

The winding travels horizontally across both outer sections then turns vertically down a narrow center band, and the change of direction alone divides the back into three fields that catch light at different angles.
