A Round Table on One Column

The Brutoni coffee table is built from two forms stacked on each other. A cylindrical pedestal rises straight from the floor at a constant diameter, neither tapering nor flaring, and meets the underside of the top without a bracket or a plate showing at the join. Above it the top is a full circle cut noticeably deeper in section than a coffee table usually carries, its rim rolled under through a continuous curve so the edge reads soft from a seated angle rather than cutting a hard line. An oak-toned grain covers the top and continues down across the pedestal, the figure reading straight and even across the whole surface. Nothing interrupts the floor around the base, no legs at the corners and no stretcher between them, leaving the rug clear from every side.
