A Backrest That Becomes the Arms

The Peipus dining chairs arrive as a coordinated pair, each built around one shaped length of solid wood that does the work of three parts. The backrest spans the width behind the shoulders, then carries out past each side, drops through a curve at the elbow and lands on the top of the front leg, closing both sides without a bracket or a joint at the corner. Below that, the frame stays open, four legs tapering toward the floor with a stretcher tying the front pair to the back on each side. A padded seat sits inside the frame rails, covered in faux leather over foam and dished slightly across its width. The wood is finished to show its grain through, and nothing else is added, no upholstery on the back, no trim at the edges.

Care Instructions

• Wipe the faux leather seat with a soft damp cloth and a leather-safe cleaner, testing on a hidden area first
• Blot spills promptly with a clean dry cloth to keep moisture from settling into the seams
• Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads and solvent cleaners on the faux leather, which can mark the surface
• Dust the solid wood with a dry cloth, following the grain rather than working across it
• Wipe the wood with a barely damp cloth when needed and dry immediately so water does not sit on the finish
• Apply a wood-safe polish a few times a year to maintain the finish across the back, arms and legs
• Keep the chairs away from radiators, heat vents and prolonged direct sunlight, which can dry or fade the wood
• Pay attention to the curve where the back turns down into each arm, since that section takes the most hand contact
