A Floor Bunk With Barn Door Panels

The Brinor bunk bed is the paneled version of this twin over twin floor frame, drawn so the ends carry a pattern rather than a row of plain posts. Solid rubberwood posts stand at all four corners, and headboards and footboards close in both ends of each level in solid panels cut with the V-brace of a barn door. Each panel mounts either way up, so the V can point toward the ceiling or the floor and the pattern changes with a set of bolts rather than a new bed. Thirteen slats span the upper deck and seven carry the lower, so a mattress goes down without a box spring on either level. Guardrails enclose the top bunk along both long sides, the ladder climbs at one end on wide flat steps, and the whole frame stops well under four feet.

Care Instructions

• Dust the frame and panels with a dry cloth, following the grain rather than working across it
• Wipe finished surfaces with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately so water does not sit on the finish
• Avoid abrasive powders, scouring pads, bleach and solvent-based cleaners on any surface
• Keep the frame away from radiators, heat vents and long hours of direct sunlight
• Check the slats every few months to make sure none has shifted out of position
• Check the ladder and guardrail connections whenever you strip the upper bunk
• Retighten the panel bolts after reversing a panel, and check them again a week later
• Retighten every frame bolt after the first two weeks of use, then check them every few months
• Lift the frame clear of the floor when repositioning rather than dragging it
